Last week during Sephora’s Spring Sale, I really wanted to grab a few Hourglass products like the Ambient Lighting Blush and Bronzer. I also had been eyeing the Volume II Palette and Vanish Blush Sticks but they sold out before I had the chance to shop. Luckily, I went into Ulta Beauty and saw they had the bronzer and blush that I swatched at Sephora. I ended up grabbing the Ambient Lighting Blush and Bronzer in the shades Radiant Bronze Light and Diffused Heat.
I can already tell that both the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush and Bronzer will be a staple in my makeup bag. Both products are radiant and I love how natural they look. The products blend into the skin and have sort of a sheerness to them, but with speckles of shimmer. Since they are a little sheer, you’re able to build the product up without them looking chalky or too heavy.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush
Usually, I like matte blushes to avoid highlighting any texture that I don’t wish to highlight. But, surprisingly, this blush doesn’t emphasize texture (even though it is radiant). If anything, when wearing this blush, I feel like my skin looks airbrushed with a little hint of luminosity. As stated earlier. I did get the shade Diffused Heat which is described as a vibrant poppy blush combined with Diffused Light for a subtle halo effect. This is why when looking at the blush, you’ll see the blush color with streaks of the lighting effect added in.
Now, I will say that although this blush is beautiful, I don’t think I would describe the color as a vibrant poppy. At least not on my skin. Instead, it appears to be a pink mauve. Colors tend to show up differently on different skin tones so I will recommend that you go in stores to swatch the colors to see which looks best on you.
Although the color wasn’t what I was expecting, it’s still a color that works for my tone. I’m curious to see how these blushes will show up on darker skin since they are on the sheer side. I expect that it would be just as beautiful, but would probably have to be built up to get the desired color. Building up pigment shouldn’t be a problem since these blushes are lightweight.
Overall, I’ll rate these blushes a 4.5 / 5 since the descriptions are off and would require you to go in store to test. I’d really love too see Hourglass come out with a matte powder blush!
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer
Let me start out by saying that I was really disappointed to see the shade selection for these “bronzers”. I’m not sure if these colors are bronzing anyone. But, I didn’t purchase this to use as a bronzer. Instead, I bought it to use as a subtle highlighter. That’s one thing that I love about Hourglass’ complexion products. They have this innovative lighting effect that allows you to highlight areas of the face in a subtle, yet super appealing way. I picked up the deepest shade Radiant Bronze Light which is described as a warm bronze shade fused with Radiant Light to mimic a summer glow. (Ideal for medium/deep complexions). If you notice, the description says that is ideal for medium and deep complexions which is the category that I fall under so I can say this is accurate. However, they’re completely neglecting those that fall under the deep/dark category.
Despite the lack of colors and inclusivity, I will have to say that this powder is probably one of my favorite formulas as far as highlighter goes. I can only imagine how well the actual highlighting powders will perform. I am interested in trying out the lighter colors to see if they will look well on my skin since I know the descriptions can be off for the Hourglass products.
Overall, I’ll rathe this bronzer a 4 / 5 since it can’t actually be used as a bronzer since it’s too radiant and doesn’t have enough shades.
What I Want to Try Next from the Brand
I’m really interested in trying out almost all of the blush shades, specifically Sublime Flush, Incandescent Electra, and Mood Exposure. I’ll probably pick up the bronzer shade up from the one that I have which will be Luminous Bronze Light
If you own anything from Hourglass, let me know how you like it! What’s your favorite product and least favorite?
