NARS is a brand that is popular for their complexion products (and of course Orgasm Blush). I remember the very first “high end” foundation I ever bought being NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. It was a beautiful foundation, but I wasn’t a fan of it not coming with a pump. When I saw how good the reviews on the NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation were, I knew I had to end my NARS withdrawal and purchase it.
NARS describes this foundation as A full coverage, transfer-proof, oxidation-resistant foundation that lasts for up to 16 hours with a natural-looking matte finish. As I was saying in my recent post, Morphe Soft Focus Filter Effect Review, soft matte will be my go-to formula for the summer since it is long wearing but also lightweight.
This foundation is available in 34 shades. I was able to pick up my usual shade, Caracas (MD3.3: Medium Dark-Dark with peach undertones). This is actually one of my favorite foundation matches. It has warm and cool tones, but isn’t exactly neutral which is what I like since I have golden and red tones. Sometimes shades will vary across products, even though they’re made by the same brand. For example, I wear 380 in the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Longwear Foundation; however, 380 in the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Powder Foundation dries down darker so I would have to go up a shade. Luckily, the NARS shades are consistent throughout their entire collection of foundations.
My absolute favorite thing about the NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation is the bottle! I would feel comfortable traveling with this foundation since it isn’t in a glass bottle (no more worrying about my foundation breaking while traveling!) The bottle is soft to the touch and only requires a little squeeze to get the product out, giving you full control of how much product is used (no more wasting foundation.)
Does it Measure Up to its Claims?
As far as the longevity of this foundation, I can say that it is truly longwearing. I don’t notice any oils peeking through AT ALL throughout the day. I’m not sure if I agree that it is transfer-proof since I think it is impossible for makeup to be transfer-proof. Of course it’s not going to rub off from touching it. But, I do think it sheers out when wearing my mask for a few hours, but definitely nothing too noticeable unless you’re super close to me (which I hope no one is so close to me that they’re able to inspect my face). NARS definitely told no lies when they said this foundation is oxidation-resistant. Oxidation is the worst. It looks like the perfect shade and then boom… it’s about 3 shades darker once it dries down.
For those of you wondering if this foundation will hold up during the summer, I truly think so. It’s been 80 here in North Carolina and my makeup still looks flawless at the end of the day. Since my skin is combination (normal/dry) I can’t really speak for my oily girls. But it looks amazing on my skin, despite my cheeks being really textured lately.
Overall, this foundation has become a staple and I will continue to repurchase it until I discover something better. You can find this foundation at Sephora.com or NARScosmetics.com
